In-Service Training Conference 2024 presented by Anglican Diocese of Singapore and St Peter’s Hall was held at St John’s – St Margaret’s Church over 3 days.
We saw our fellow pastoral, chaplaincy, admin and operations colleagues from all parishes and services across the island congregate as one body to be ministered by God’s word.
There were 2 plenary sessions in the morning. Plenary 1 delved into the Epistle of Titus centering around the theme of “Sound Teaching of the True Gospel Leads to Godly Living”shared by Ven Tak Meng Wong, Revd Dr Joshua Sudharman and Canon Ao-you Huang.
Plenary 2 was conducted by Revd Dr Tan Siang Yang, a globally renowned speaker, where he embarked on a thematic exploration of the attributes of God, designed to deepen our understanding of and awe of His nature.
It was a privilege to have the worship sessions led by different teams each day before the plenary sessions as well as at the Holy Communion Service
Afternoons were filled with various workshops, with 6-7 different areas of ministry to choose from each day. A total of 20 workshops were offered, all with a practical ministry-oriented or personal-enrichment focus, e.g. How to help younger members appreciate Anglicanism, How to identify and develop potential leaders, What members in the marketplace need from their pastors etc
We concluded on the final day with St Peter’s Hall 70th Anniversary Holy Communion Service, where Archbishop Titus Chung preached on the perennial importance of “The Word of God” to all church workers. Revd Dr Joshua also shared a presentation on the 70-year journey of St Peter’s Hall and key areas of development for the future.
A key highlight of the ISTC was the ministry time when clergy, pastoral and admin staff were praying for one another, with many tears being shed. It was truly a unique opportunity for the In-Service staff of the Diocese to come out of our usual silos and experience our collective strength and diversity as a Diocese. It was also refreshing that those who usually minister to others were themselves ministered to.
Special thanks to St John’s-St Margaret’s Church who hosted us and went out of the way, behind the scenes, to ensure that the plenary/workshop/makan venues were comfortable for everyone. We were truly blessed to have experienced their radical hospitality!
“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
– Titus 3:4-7
